Campus Ministry Reflections
“No duty is more urgent than that of returning thanks,” says St. Ambrose of Milan. This year has been a struggle for many people and yet it seems more important than ever, to take time to remember our blessings and to give thanks to God who loves and cares for us.
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, even though it may be different from in the past, I hope that we can be grateful. . . for the gift of life, the beauty of creation, for the communities to which we belong (families, friends, co-workers, teams, neighbors), for answered and unanswered prayers and for laughter and tears. Let us be grateful for opportunities to pray, reflect, and grow in our faith. Let us be grateful for the examples of the saints and for fond memories of our deceased loved ones. Let us be grateful for the students, faculty, staff, administration, alumni and benefactors of St. Ambrose University.
It’s important that we thank God, both in our prayer and our actions, for the blessings we have received by “paying it forward” to others. On this Christ the King Sunday, we hear in the Gospel parable, “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.” These expressions of care and concern for God’s people are also expressions of thanksgiving to God for the way God loves and cares for us. During this Thanksgiving season, let us look for the blessings and give thanks to our God not only with words but also through our actions! -- Tammy

Campus Ministry Reflections
Breath in… breath out… WHEW. What a week! I have a feeling some of us might be feeling just a tad overwhelmed? With the election, switching to online classes, a tornado, finals coming up, thanksgiving, everything going on in our world, it can be exhausting and overwhelming. I invite you all to just take a moment to pause. Think of three things that are positive or going well in your life. They don’t have to be perfect or big, just think of three. These challenges we are facing are tough and it is okay to be struggling or upset, especially when we have no control over what is happening.
Today’s devotional from Blessed is She was about devastation and the challenges we face in life and even challenges we may be facing now. The author shared about the loss she had experienced and her anger with God. She realized the Holy Spirit had been guiding her to develop a stronger faith through this loss. Through the suffering, she looked towards Heaven. The Lord held her hand. He walked with her as she went into the depths of the unknown because the only way she was able to make it out of the heartbreak was to follow Him. Meandering through this unknown was intimidating, but she knew she was holding the hand of Someone Who is bigger than all the misery.
As we continue to wander through the unknown, know that you are not alone. God is reaching his hand to comfort and guide you through. Grab his hand and see where He takes you. -- Claire
