Campus Ministry Reflections
Since the year 2000 the Second Sunday of Easter has been observed in the Catholic Church as “Divine Mercy Sunday.” The Gospel for this Sunday is always the story from John’s Gospel of Jesus’ appearance to the disciples, first without Thomas, and a week later with Thomas present. At first glance, this might seem an odd pairing, “Divine Mercy” and “Doubting Thomas.” But from Jesus’ first appearance, and bestowal of peace and the gift of the Holy Spirit with the words, “Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them,” we see that this is really all about mercy. Even Thomas’ absence and subsequent doubt gets folded into God’s boundless mercy, as upon examination of Christ’s wounds a week later he declares, “My Lord and my God!” And Jesus assures us that those who have not seen and yet believed (i.e. the rest of the Church since the time of Christ) are “blessed.” Divine Mercy turns fear into hope, doubt into faith, indifference into love. And this is just as true for us as it was for those first followers of Jesus. Happy Easter and God bless! – Fr. Thom
Sacraments of Initiation Mass - April 11th at 10:30 am
Please pray for our candidates preparing to celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation this Sunday: Brenda Anguiano, '14, graduate student in the Master's of Speech Pathology, will celebrate the sacrament of confirmation. Taryn Schneider will make a profession of faith, be received in to the Catholic Church and celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation.
The candidates met throughout the past year to explore the Sunday Scriptures and experience the Catholic way of life. We congratulate them and welcome them with great joy!
This week, friend & engineer of the show, Dave Baker, joins us as a guest! We reminisce about getting the podcast off the ground and learn what Dave does to get the episodes ready to distribute each week.
