This Sunday, St. Ambrose University is kicking off our 30 Days of Prayer and Service with Bee the Difference Day! Our Student Government Organization has organized teams of over 600 students, faculty, and staff to go out and rake leaves for our campus neighbors. This day is a visible sign of our commitment as Ambrosians to love and serve. (It’s not too late to sign up! Email beethedifferenceday@sau.edu for more info.)
St. Ambrose of Milan, our namesake and patron, often emphasized charity, compassion and service to others. He believed that actively engaging in works of mercy and kindness is an expression of faith and love for God. St. Ambrose also wrote often about the transformative power of prayer. “Let your door stand open to receive Him, unlock your soul to Him, offer Him a welcome in your mind, and then you will see the riches of simplicity, the treasure of peace, the joy of grace,” is one of many quotes attributed to him.
Between Bee the Difference Day, Nov. 5th and the Feast of St Ambrose, Dec. 7th , we are encouraging all Ambrosians to follow the lead of our patron saint and BEE intentional in prayer and service. Each weekday, an email will be sent to everyone on campus that includes a reflection written by a student, faculty, staff or alumni. These reflections will also be posted on our campus ministry social media. Christ the King Chapel is available as a quiet place to pray.
We are asking all Ambrosians to please submit their service hours on this form during Bee the Difference Month, so that we can celebrate all the ways that we are making the world a better place through our acts of mercy and charity. Each week, we will highlight on social media students, departments or teams that are making a difference. If you share photos on social media, please use the hashtag #BeeTheDifferenceMonth.
I pray that throughout Bee the Difference Month, we all grow in our love for God and for our neighbor through our commitment to prayer and service.

The crisis in the Holy Land has unfolded into a humanitarian catastrophe after the October 7 attack on Israel, which is being met with a bombardment of retaliatory strikes on Gaza. More than 4,300 deaths have been reported across the region, not including the impact of a recent deadly hospital blast in Gaza city that is estimated to have claimed hundreds of lives. An estimated 1 million people, almost half the population, are displaced following an order for people to evacuate the northern part of Gaza.
In coordination with partners across the region, CRS is helping to meet urgent needs. We are responding to the rapidly changing context, and are being especially mindful of people’s needs—both physical and emotional—at a time of tremendous uncertainty, fear, loss and despair. CRS is able to draw on our extensive experience and partnerships in the Holy Land, where we have been active for decades, including responses to the needs brought by the 2014 war and successive conflicts.
With your gift, families affected by violence in the Holy Land will receive assistance.
