Campus Ministry Reflections
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus foreshadows the type of death that waits for him: “And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself” (Jn 12: 32-33). This idea of Jesus drawing everyone to himself stuck with me - what does this look like? My overactive imagination quickly paints a picture of all of humanity being tied to Jesus with an invisible string, and he is some great fisherman in the heavens trying to reel us in. That can’t be it, though, there is no real freedom there.
Maybe instead we are attracted to what we are images of - God. If Jesus is God made man, it would make sense that we would be drawn to him. Perhaps Jesus draws us to him as specifically and individually as our hearts were created, through the things that inspire us, excite us, or bring us joy. Maybe he calls us to come to him in an invitation to Mass through a good friend, or in a comforting hug in a time of distress. Jesus draws me to him through art, music, sunshine, loving people, and many other ways I have yet to discover. How has he drawn you toward him today? -- Lauren

Understanding the Lenten Fast and Abstinence FASTING: Catholics age 18-59 are obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday - only partaking in one full meal. Two other smaller meals (not equaling a full meal) and liquids are permitted. ABSTINENCE: Catholics over 14 years old must abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all other Fridays of Lent. Abstinence forbids the use of meat, but not eggs, milk, or condiments made from animal fat. We are reminded each year that the obligation to do this penance is a serious one, but no one should be scrupulous in this regard; if health reasons or the ability to do one's work is seriously affected, these regulations do not apply.
They may not know what episode it is, but Fr. Thom and Meg are happy to be back in the studio! This week, they talk all things Lent, running, and the shows they're watching.
