Campus Ministry Reflections

As we near the end of our semester, we may be figuring out what our next step is. For those graduating, you may be looking for jobs or looking for further education. Others may be looking for a summer job, new friends, experiences, and opportunities. We feel that we have to have everything figured out and we have to always be ready for the next thing. I personally am always ready for the next adventure. With the pandemic, it has been hard to look forward to or plan the next thing. We really have had no control over what our next step is but do we ever really have control?

In today’s readings, God reminds us that nothing will ever love, satisfy, or fulfill us but Him. And still He is fully aware of our struggles. While it is easy to get stressed about getting a job, or what major you want, or a relationship you desire, God reminds us that he is in control. He knows that we want to be fully devoted to him and that the dreams we aspire to have or accomplish are a sign of our greatest hope of Heaven. He knows us more than we know ourselves, and He is fully aware of our needs.

While I know it can still be hard, we must trust our deepest desires, longings, yearnings, aches, pains, and timelines into the hands of God. He knows what He is doing and will not lead you astray.  -- Claire

Understanding the Lenten Fast and Abstinence
FASTING: Catholics age 18-59 are obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday - only partaking in one full meal.  Two other smaller meals (not equaling a full meal) and liquids are permitted.
ABSTINENCE: Catholics over 14 years old must abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all other Fridays of Lent.  Abstinence forbids the use of meat, but not eggs, milk, or condiments made from animal fat.  We are reminded each year that the obligation to do this penance is a serious one, but no one should be scrupulous in this regard; if health reasons or the ability to do one's work is seriously affected, these regulations do not apply.
NOTE: The "Around the Lenten Circle" small group will be meeting in Cosgrove next Wednesday, March 10th, at 7:00 pm.
