TWO SAINTS ON ONE HISTORIC WEEKEND
History will be made at the Vatican this weekend as two recent popes will be named saints.  Pope John XXIII, the pope at the time of my birth and Pope John Paul II the pope at the time of the birth of nearly every current traditional aged SAU student, will be canonized by Pope Francis amid crowds expected to exceed several million.  There is so much to say about each pope and their unique model of holiness.  John XXIII was affectionately referred to by so many as “Good Pope John” because of his humor, his ability to understand the plight of ordinary human beings throughout the world, and because of his call for the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) that renewed our understanding of what it means to be church, reformed the Liturgy, and opened up the church to a broader social and ecumenical agenda.  Pope John Paul II is someone whose place in the history of the 20th century is undisputed because of his persistent voice for life, his role in the downfall of the Soviet Union, and his courage even after an assassination attempt and in the face of his own diminishing health. But most of all, the canonization of these two very different, but each holy human beings, reminds us that there are different paths to holiness and that different personalities and different gifts need not be in conflict, but can serve to strengthen our church.  Perhaps Pope Francis is reminding us of this as he canonizes both popes on the same day.  A maxim that is said to have been a favorite of the soon-to-be Saint Pope John is good advice for us all amid the differences we find today in our church, our nation, or even in our university and homes:  “In what is essential, may there be unity.  In what is not essential, may there be freedom.  But in all things, may there be charity.”   ---Fr. Chuck

•Celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation
We are honored to celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation at the 10:30am mass this Sunday and we welcome the following individuals into full communion of the Catholic Church. The Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist are celebrated for Megan McIntyre. We receive into the Catholic Church from other Christian Denominations and celebrate the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist with Christopher Hollis, Lani Lietsch, Casey Nabb, Christopher Shoopman, Kelly Steiner, and Sara Strever.  We congratulate each of these individuals who have been a part of the Christian Initiation process here at St. Ambrose this past year and we welcome them with great joy. If you are interested in taking part in the initiation process next year, know someone who desires to be confirmed or you simply want to learn more about the Catholic Church, please email ministry@sau.edu.

•”Dash 4 Drex” Memorial Run
This Saturday, April 26, is the Sixth Annual Dash 4 Drex, a 2.1 mile run/walk established to honor the memory of student Derrek Drexler who died in March 2009 after a couragous battle from a rare complication from a viral infection. The Dash begins at 9am in front of Bechtel Hall.  A $25 fee for the general public, $20 for SAU students, and $15 for the t-shirt only.  All proceeds benefit the Derrek D. Drexler Scholarship Fund at St. Ambrose University.  Go to Dash 4 Drex for the race registration form or to make a donation.  Contact Jennifer Wink: WinkJenniferL@sau.edu or Andy Milton MiltonAndrewA@sau.edu.

•Tally of This Year’s Service
Campus Ministry is tallying up all of the service done by Ambrosians over the past academic year.  If you have not yet logged service hours for your club, organization, or class, please email Kelly Bush at BushKellyA@sau.edu with your total number of hours by Monday, April 28 to have your service in the official University count.  This count is used for the President’s Service Honor Roll, so make sure your group or your personal hours of service is represented.

•Turn in Your Rice Bowls
If you haven’t yet turned in your Rice Bowl offerings from Lent, please bring it to the Chapel Gathering Space and place it in the marked basket.  All money raised goes to Catholic Relief Services to fight hunger both here in the Quad Cities and around the world.  Thank you for your generosity!

•Boxes and Walls - The Oppression Experience
Take part in an immersive Diversity experience that offers participants a tour of a house where each room has its own theme based on a stereotype.  Each participant will go through the house on a self-guided tour monitored by facilitators.  There are simulations, activities, and an overwhelming amount of images and voices.  You will leave the experience having an idea of what it would be like to live in someone else’s shoes.  Be sure to take part in this eye-opening experience from April 28-30.  Times: Monday 3-6pm, Tuesday 5-8pm, Wednesday 11-2pm.  Location: 2120 Brown St.  Learn more on the SAU Facebook page.

•Final Weekday Mass - Tuesday, May 6 at 9pm and Midnight Breakfast at 10pm
Bring your friends, bring your floor, or bring your team!  All are invited to the last daily Mass of the semester on Tuesday, May 6 at 9pm in the Grotto (rain location: Chapel).  Come together and celebrate liturgy one last time before summer.  After Mass, head over to Cosgrove Caf for Midnight Breakfast, beginning at 10pm.

•Music for Commencement Mass
All SAU students, faculty, and staff are invited to assist with music for the Commencement Mass on Sat, May 10 at 9am in the Chapel.  There are two Monday rehearsals left: April 28 and May 5, both at 7pm in the Chapel.  This wonderful SAU tradition provides a beautiful liturgy to help send off our graduating students.  Please email Chris Clow at ministry@sau.edu if you would like to help out!

•Certificate in Youth Ministry Studies
