Go and Bear Fruit that Will Remain
As we come to the end of this academic year (I still can’t believe I’m saying that), we are reminded in the Gospel this Sunday that God has chosen us “to go and bear fruit that will remain.”  There is a profound sense of call and purpose in these words.  No doubt our graduates felt called to study here at St. Ambrose University and, through their discernment and study, felt in some sense that their future career path chose them, based on their own particular gifts and passions.  And now, hopefully, they go out into the world or on to continued study with a true sense of mission.  The mission statement for St. Ambrose states that we enable our students “to develop intellectually, spiritually, ethically, socially, artistically and physically to enrich their own lives and the lives of others.”  It is my hope that our graduates have indeed experienced this kind of all-encompassing enrichment during their time here.  But pay close attention to that last part about not only enriching their own lives, but enriching the lives of others.  Nothing that we do here is ultimately just for ourselves, or at least that should not be the case.  If we have lost sight of that, then we have failed in our mission.  As Ambrosians we are called to have a decidedly “other-centered” orientation.   Jesus says, “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”  Those about to go forth, to “commence,” from this university will in one way or another “lay down their lives” for others.  To the degree that they do this, they will also bear fruit that remains long past their own lifetimes and even into eternity.  We give thanks to God for the many blessings of this year, even through some difficult times, and we ask God’s fullest blessing upon all our graduates, as well as our faculty, staff, alumni, friends and current students.  God bless and have a great summer! ---Fr. Thom

•Commencement Mass May 12
Graduates and their families are invited to begin Commencement Day by celebrating Mass at Christ the King Chapel at 9am on Saturday, May 12. The Most Reverend Bishop Thomas Zinkula of Davenport will be the celebrant for the liturgy, and Mass will feature a combined choir of SAU students, faculty, and staff.  The Mass will conclude in time for families to enjoy the Brunch in Rogalski Center.  People of all faiths are welcome at this service of thanksgiving and blessing.  Learn more about everything happening for Spring Commencement on the SAU webpage.

•Summer Mass Schedule
This Sunday, May 6 will be the last regular weekend with 10:30am/6:30pm Masses on Sunday. The last daily Mass is Tuesday, May 8 at 9pm.  Beginning on Sunday, May 13 we will offer Sunday Mass in the chapel at 10:30am every weekend until June 24 (except May 27, due to Memorial Day).  No 6:30pm Sunday or daily Masses are offered during the summer, and there will be no regular Masses from June 25 through August 11.  10:30am Sunday Masses resume again on August 12.  Have a great summer!

•Tuesday, May 8 - Last Weekday Mass at 9 pm and Midnight Breakfast at 10 pm
Bring your friends, bring your floor, or bring your team!  All are welcome at the last daily Mass of the semester on Tuesday, May 8 at 9pm in the Grotto (rain location: Chapel). A blessing will be offered for all who will be graduating. We will conclude in plenty of time for getting in line for Midnight Breakfast in the Cosgrove Cafeteria which begins at 10pm.

•Liturgical Ministers Needed for Summer
Area students or those living on campus for the summer who are interested in being lectors, sacristans/servers, cantors or extraordinary ministers of holy communion for Mass during May or June, should email ministry@sau.edu.  THANK YOU!

•Music for Commencement Mass
All SAU students, faculty, and staff are invited to assist with the music for the Commencement Mass on Saturday, May 12 at 9am in the Chapel.  This Mass provides a beautiful send-off for our graduates and their families, and is a wonderful SAU tradition.  Last rehearsal is Thursday, May 10 at 7pm in the Chapel.  People of all skill levels are welcome!  Email Chris Clow at ministry@sau.edu to sign up.

•LAST CALL for SAU Community Service Hours - Due Monday, May 7
We are asking the entire SAU campus community to help us tabulate all of the hours of service that have been given during the 2017-2018 academic year by our students, faculty, and staff.  Last year, the SAU campus completed an amazing 156,720 hours of service!  In order to document our commitment to service, we need an accurate count of what student groups, classes, and individuals are doing.  Go to https://sau.wufoo.com/forms/log-your-service-hours/ by Monday, May 7 and log hours of service from your class, with a student club, or individual service you did on your own.  Email Kaitlin at ministry@sau.edu with any questions.  Thank you SAU!

•Move Out Collection
STUDENTS!  As you pack up to move out for the summer, do you have clothes, shoes, furniture, or food that you aren’t taking with you?  DON’T THROW IT OUT!  The Peer Campus Ministers are collecting items that are clean and in good condition to donate to families with local community organizations.  They are also collecting non-perishable food as well.  Simply look for donation spots in your Residence Hall and drop off items there until Saturday, May 12.  Email ministry@sau.edu if you have any questions about donatable items.  Thank you from your Peer Campus Ministers, Campus Ministry, and Residence Life!

•Rice Bowls
THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to the Rice Bowl collection from your sacrifices this past Lenten season.  Once again, SAU gave generously, and we have sent $1,000 to Catholic Relief Services to combat hunger around the world!

•New Student Orientation Masses
A simple 8 am Mass will be offered in the Chapel to begin the orientation days on June 5, 8, 12, 15, and 19.

•Thank You from Campus Ministry
We would like to express our thanks and great appreciation for all of the gifts and talents our students, faculty, and staff have shared through campus ministry this year. The list is too long to mention everyone but we would especially like to acknowledge: Peer Campus Ministers; Ambrosians for Peace and Justice; Service on Saturdays; Antioch Retreat leaders; New Student Retreat leaders; Confirmation Retreat volunteers; Bridge Bible Fellowship leaders; Bee’s Knees prayer members; Mass and More volunteers; and all of our liturgical ministers: Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Sacristans, Altar Servers, and Music Ministers. THANK YOU!

•CONGRATULATIONS GRADUATES!
Finally, a word of congratulations to all of our graduates this spring!  A special congratulations to our two Faith Learning Justice award winners, and to all those who have been active in Campus Ministry in so many ways over the years.  We have been blessed to have you as a part of our SAU community, and will continue to pray for you wherever your journeys take you next.  Know that you always have a home here at St. Ambrose University and at Christ the King Chapel.
