Campus Ministry Reflections
Last Monday my daughter had a baby boy and I became a grandma.  What an incredible feeling!  I had tears in my eyes when I met my grandson for the first time and more tears when I traced a cross on his forehead and said good bye a week later.  As a mother of young adult children and now a grandma, I try to pray daily for each of them.   Sometimes I wonder how often I need to repeat the same requests.  And then, I remember the persistence of St Monica, whose feast day is today, August 27th.    (Her spiritual director was St Ambrose of Milan himself.) She is the patron saint of mothers, because she prayed for years for the conversion of her son, Augustine, before he was finally baptized and ordained a Bishop.  Her patience with God is so admirable.  Sometimes it’s hard to keep praying and trusting that God hears and answers us in His time.   I hope that I can imitate the perseverance in prayer that St Monica had as I continue to pray for not only my own family, but the needs of our St Ambrose University family and our community and world.  Now is not the time to give up on God but to trust that God hears us and loves us even more than a mother or grandmother!
